마을·옛길·산·강·하천·문화재 유래 망라…12월 예정

(장성=연합뉴스) 정회성 기자 = 전남 장성군 곳곳의 지명 유래를 모아 기록한 책자가 나온다.

장성군이 후원하고 장성문화원이 편찬하는 '지명으로 통해 보는 장성변천사'가 집필 마무리 단계에 접어들어 12월께 발간 예정이다.

읍과 면 단위 지명유래를 조사해 수집한 1천500여 쪽 분량의 방대한 자료를 두 권으로 나눠 담는다.

옛길과 산, 강, 하천, 문화재의 유래를 마을 순으로 수록한다.

샘 바닥에서 방울방울 솟아오르는 물방울에서 유래한 영천(鈴泉·방울샘), 비녀바위에서 잠암(簪岩)이라는 이름을 얻은 마을 등을 포함한다.

인물 이야기나 토속 의식 등 장성의 변천사를 파악할 수 있는 내용도 담았다.

집필 책임은 김재선 장성군문화관광해설인협회장과 공영갑 전 장성문화원장이 맡았다.

올해 4월부터 발간위원회 회의, 읍·면별 조사위원 위촉 등 기초자료 수집을 시작했다.

유두석 장성군수는 10일 "지리적 특성뿐만 아니라 역사, 유래를 망라한 소중한 자료가 될 것"이라며 "향토사 연구에도 요긴하게 활용되리라고 기대한다"고 말했다.
