그린스펀 "미 경제, 인플레이션과 재정적자가 큰 걱정"

(서울=연합뉴스) 유택형 기자 = 앨런 그린스펀 전 미국 연방준비제도(Fed) 의장이 10일(현지시간) 미국 경제에서 자신이 가장 우려하는 것은 인플레이션과 정부 재정적자라고 밝혔다.

그린스펀은 이날 CNBC 방송과 인터뷰에서 "내 견해로는 인플레이션 전망이 불행히도 부정적"이라면서 "이는 본질적으로 정부 재정 지출이 민간투자와 생산성 향상을 저해한 결과"라고 진단했다.

그린스펀이 지난 3월 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 대유행 이후 TV 인터뷰를 한 것은 이번이 처음이다.

정부 재정적자와 관련해 그는 "연방정부의 지출 불균형이 통제 불능 상황에 있다"고 진단했다.

미 정부의 2020 회계연도 재정 결손은 지난 7월 현재 2조4천500억 달러로 이는 정부가 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)에 따른 셧다운에서 경제를 살리기 위해 예산 지출을 늘린 결과다.

그는 사회보장, 메디케이드(저소득층 의료비 지원), 메디케어(고령자 의료지원) 등 부문 정부 지출에 따른 재정적자를 오래전부터 개탄해 왔다.

이번에도 그는 "우리는 은퇴 부문 규모가 엄청나게 증가하는 것을 잘 알고 있지만 앞에 놓인 재정적자 규모는 과소평가하고 있다"고 지적했다.

그린스펀은 최근 연준이 채택한 2% 평균 물가안정 목표제에 관해서는 "관여하고 싶지 않다. 내 판단으로는 현재까지 잘 가고 있다"며 구체적인 언급은 피했다.
