(서울=연합뉴스) 이유미 이보배 홍규빈 기자 = 더불어민주당은 11일 추미애 법무부 장관 아들을 둘러싼 의혹이 갈수록 확산하는 데 대해 "가짜뉴스", "정체공세"라며 맞섰다.

김종민 최고위원은 이날 최고위원회의에서 "현재까지 나온 모든 의혹은 거의 사실이 아니다"라며 "국민의힘은 가짜뉴스로 국민을 심란하게 하지 말고 신원식 의원에 엄중한 책임을 물어야 한다"고 주장했다.

염태영 최고위원은 "언론의 정치화, 편향된 시각의 비틀기, 야당의 정치공세가 도를 넘고 있다"며 "진실 규명보다 정치적 단죄 효과를 노린 것"이라고 비판했다.

신동근 최고위원은 "조국 전 장관에 대한 무차별 의혹 제기가 재판에서 허위로 밝혀졌다"며 "추 장관 아들 의혹 제기도 근거를 확인해봐야 한다"고 말했다.

설훈 의원은 YTN 라디오 '출발 새아침'에서 "전형적인 덮어씌우기다. 참 억울하기 짝이 없게 당하고 있구나 싶다"며 "결국은 추 장관을 끌어내리기 위한 방법"이라고 야당을 비판했다.

김경협 의원은 페이스북에 "아무거나 가족 관련 의혹 제기해서 검찰수사 들어가면 이해 충돌로 몰아서 사퇴하면 끝? 법무부 장관 갈아 치우기 참 쉽죠잉?"이라고 적었다.

야당 공세에 검찰개혁을 좌초시키려는 의도가 깔려 있다는 문제 제기도 잇따라 나왔다.

최민희 전 의원은 페이스북에서 "검찰 개혁하려는 법무부 장관 흔들기 코스"라고 말했다.

최고위가 생중계된 당 유튜브 채널 '씀'의 실시간 채팅창에는 '#우리가추미애다'라며 추 장관을 응원하는 문구가 연달아 올라왔다.

다만 민심 이반이 커지면서 적법 여부를 떠나 '공정성' 차원의 문제로 바라보는 일반 국민의 시각에 맞춰 대응할 필요가 있다는 목소리도 나온다.

이낙연 대표는 이날 비공개 최고위에서 "상황을 파악해 어떻게 대처하면 좋을지 상의를 해보라"고 주문한 것으로 알려졌다. 사실관계와 별개로 국민 정서 악화에 어떻게 대처할지 살펴보라는 것이다.

한 핵심 관계자는 "감성적으로 국민 마음을 풀어주는 접근도 필요하다"고 말했다.

실제로 이번 사태에 대한 접근법이 보편적인 국민정서에 비춰 만족스럽지 못하다는 지적도 당내에서 제기된다.

한 중진 의원은 "경미한 사안이 침소봉대된 건 사실이지만 전혀 문제가 안 되는 것도 아니다"며 "20대 젊은이들 눈높이에서, 공정과 정의의 차원에서 맞지 않는다"고 지적했다.

한 재선 의원은 "심각한 상황인데 우리만 아무 문제가 없다고 하면 끝인 건가"라고 우려했다.
