(서울=연합뉴스) 오보람 기자 = 최근 히트곡 '페인킬러'로 국내에도 잘 알려진 호주 출신 십대 싱어송라이터 루엘이 새 싱글을 내놓는다.

유통사 소니뮤직은 10일 루엘이 1년 만의 새 싱글 '애즈 롱 애즈 유 케어'(as long as you care)를 발매한다고 이날 밝혔다.

다음달 발매 예정인 세 번째 EP '브라이트 라이츠, 레드 아이즈'(Bright Lights, Red Eyes)에 수록될 곡이다.

루엘은 "새 EP를 준비하며 내가 한단계 더 성숙할 기회가 될 것이라는 믿음이 생겼다. 팬들이 내가 성장하는 과정에 함께 해준다는 사실이 너무 기쁘다"라고 소감을 전했다.

18세인 루엘은 '데이즈드 앤 콘퓨즈드'(Dazed & Confused)로 호주 그래미상으로 일컫는 아리아(ARIA) 뮤직 어워즈에서 2018년 신인상을 거머쥔 촉망받는 신예다.

성숙하고 허스키한 음색과 폭넓은 음역이 특징. 영국 가수 엘튼 존으로부터 "동년배 가수 중 최고라 할 수 있는 놀라운 목소리"라고 극찬받았다.

지난해 5월 발표한 '페인킬러'는 올해 초 국내 음원 차트에서 역주행한 뒤 지금까지도 꾸준히 상위권을 유지 중이다. 지난해 첫 단독 내한 공연을 한 그는 올해에도 한국을 찾을 예정이었지만 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 여파로 계획을 취소했다.
